Humberto Leal Garcia Executed

Well Texas just told President Obama and international law to go take a leap as the Lone Star State went ahead and executed a Mexican national for the rape and murder of a girl.

Humberto Leal at least had the decency to admit his guilt and take responsibility for his fiendish actions.

The lethal drug combination took effect and he was pronounced dead at 6:21 pm. It took ten minutes for the drugs to take effect.

Texas executed Leal even though President Obama and others said that Leal hadn’t received the proper procedure for a person from another country under arrest here. Normally the person has a right to contact their embassy before legal proceedings begin. However, that wasn’t done in Leal’s case.

Petitions and pleads were of no effect as Texas basically got so tired of foreigners, especially Mexican gang members rolling into the state causing mayhem and murder that they operated on the legal grounds that the individual states don’t have to comply with federal and international laws.

The only thing that could have stopped the execution would have been Texas’ governor or the US Supreme Court, and neither stepped in.

The tricky point here is that if it’s assumed that the US won’t follow international laws then other countries won’t be so nice to Americans who get into trouble and that might lead to chaos in all sorts of areas especially tourists and journalists to countries that are unstable and have high levels of corruption.
